BIOGRAPHY

Victoria Carter-Johnston's work has always been centered around community engagement and creating opportunities for people to learn from one another. She is a proud member of Alpha Phi Omega, National Service Fraternity, and a Howard University alumna. Victoria began her career in the nonprofit sector, volunteering and working with organizations like Loaves and Fishes, Boys and Girls club, constituent casework for Senator Creigh Deeds, The Playtime Project in D.C. and various other nonprofit organizations. She was previously with a housing nonprofit in their Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (J.E.D.I.) department, where she helped build the organization’s anti-racist and equity framework from the ground up. This included developing the strategic plan, aligning programs and practices with the mission, and collaborating on equity strategies with each department. She made updates to the Employee Handbook, facilitated a JEDI committee of department representatives, led trauma-informed staff training, created staff J.E.D.I. onboarding materials, and organized community programs like resident meetings on properties, career and financial service fairs, clothing and food drives and numerous service projects. Victoria coordinated the Youth Ambassador program, a service-based program for high school students interested in community involvement, leadership, and professional development. The program offered a range of projects, from organizing service activities on their property to advocating at city council meetings.
