Are you an undergraduate Urban and Regional Studies student? Consider joining USSA! 

The Urban Studies Student Association (USSA) is a club for students in and/or interested in urban and regional studies/planning. This is a student-led organization that offers a variety of ways for students to network with professionals in the field as well as with each other. Events include Coffee and Talks, game nights and any member-suggested activities related to expanding students' opportunities to connect with the field. In order to be a member, you simply must be in the Urban Studies undergraduate student or be interested in the urban and regional planning field.

Defense Intelligence Agency Job and Internship Opportunities

February 20, 2020, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm in the Raleigh Building room B001 (basement/lower level).

Interested in working for the nation’s premier all-source military intelligence agency with a presence in 140+ countries? This month, a recent VCU graduate will discuss the hiring process and experiences working at DIA. DIA is recruiting for all portions – to include Analysis, Counterintelligence, and Science and Technology – and is interested in a wide range of students from the Wilder School. Students specifically interested in the CI Agent and Analysis career fields may provide their resumes at this event.

Students interested in future opportunities may additionally submit applications to internship programs and vacancy announcements posted on DIA’s Internships and Careers websites, listed below. DIA will announce for positions in the late March/April timeframe for a Summer 2020 hiring event, at which interviews and selections will occur. Thank you, and we hope to see you there!

Panel on Minimum Wage and the Fight for $15

The perspectives on public policy: Views on critical issues from the public, policymakers, & Wilder School experts series will present Public Opinion on Minimum Wage and the Fight for $15 at 11:00 AM Today, February 17.
This will be a panel session on "Public Opinion on Minimum Wage and the Fight for $15," featuring expertise from the Wilder School, the Center for Public Policy, and community experts. The event will take place in the Raleigh Building, RAL 0001, lower level from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Topics will include data from the Wilder School Commonwealth Poll, information from the latest literature and case studies, and ways in which the community is working to raise the minimum wage in the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is seeking college students who are interested in gaining paid professional experience to join our second annual Summer Spirits Program. The Summer Spirits Program is a 10-week, full-time opportunity that will take place in our central office location in Richmond, Virginia from May 18th to July 31st. 
The Bureau of Law Enforcement is seeking students majoring in criminal justice, law enforcement, public safety, police science and/or coursework in criminal analysis who will be able to assist in the Training Department and Licensing & Records Division.

Humana Safety & Security Fusion Center Team Analyst

The Humana Safety & Security Fusion Center team in Louisville, KY is looking for an analyst to support its mission of monitoring the safety & security of 72,000 associates and contractors, and hundreds owned, leased or vendor properties around the globe. The Fusion Center is 24x7x365 and utilizes a dozen tools to maintain situational awareness, send notifications, and manage incidents. 

*FYI- this is an out of state position, so this would be a position for online HSEP or May graduates to consider.

The VCU Department of Political Science 14th Annual Politics and Government Student Research Conference will be held on Friday, April 10th, 2020 in the VCU Student Commons. REU Programs - UNC-Charlotte and University of South Carolina

The criminal justice and criminology departments at the University of North Carolina- Charlotte (UNC-Charlotte) and the University of South Carolina (UofSC) have each been awarded National Science Foundation grants to establish Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) programs.

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte is seeking applications for its REU Site: Data Science and Crime Analytics. The REU site brings together 9 selected undergraduate students to work with faculty from multiple departments to work on a research team during the 10-week program. Students will conduct research, attend workshops, and receive a stipend ($5,000), travel ($500) and food ($1,000) allowances, and university housing during the 2020 summer program. Graduate Research Symposium and Exhibit - Call for Submissions

This is a call for submissions to the 23rd Annual Graduate Research Symposium and Exhibit. This event was created to give graduate students the opportunity to share their learning experiences and research with other graduate students from all disciplines. Each symposium, graduate students present their original research and creative projects to faculty, staff, students and community members.
 
The symposium is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, in the Commonwealth Ballrooms of the University Student Commons from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Submit your research proposal abstracts at https://forms.gle/YJzGpwoJoK2qvPqKAThe deadline for submissions is Friday, March 6, 2020.
