Join guest speaker, Dolores Garcia, from the U.S. Department of Labor, for an information session on How to Effectively Apply and Compete for Federal Jobs in the U.S. Department of Labor and other Federal Agencies.

In this session you will learn:
• How to compete for federal jobs from two seasoned human resources specialists who have years of experience qualifying and disqualifying applicants.
• The hiring process to secure a federal job.
• Who gets referred to a selecting official for consideration and why.
• Why submitting one resume for different jobs drastically decreases your chances of success.
• The different hiring authorities available to veterans and individuals with disabilities.
• How to interpret different types of vacancy announcements.
• The differences between a resume for the private sector and a resume for the federal sector.

United States Probation Officer- Intern (Fall)

The Internship Program for the U.S. Probation Office, Eastern District of Virginia, serves to broaden the Probation Office’s commitment to the community by selecting college and university students to serve in non-compensated student intern positions within our organization. Serving as student interns under the direction of the Probation Office allows student interns to enhance and broaden their education with practical experience in the field of criminal justice.

Brookings Metropolitain Policy Program Research Asssistant

The Research Assistant supports Brookings Metro’s work at the intersection of technology, work, and regions. Under the supervision of a Senior Fellow, the Research Assistant: (a) conducts high-quality research on public policy issues; (b) organizes and analyzes large datasets; (c) identifies appropriate data sources and responds to statistical/analytical queries from senior research staff; (d) prepares tables, maps, graphics, and presentations on Program’s research findings; (e) provides literature reviews and background memoranda. As needed, the Research Assistant also oversees travel and event logistics, constituent list management, expense reimbursements, and other administrative duties.
