Director of Community Engagement

Director of Community Engagement

RVA Rapid Transit ( is a local nonprofit dedicated to educating, organizing, and advocating for public transit across the Richmond region, because frequent, far-reaching public transit helps people lead healthier, more productive, and more interconnected lives.

Position Description

The Director of Community Engagement’s role focuses on grassroots organizing with current core bus riders and potential bus riders (where lines do not currently exist) in order to center their stories, concerns, and interests at the heart of RVA Rapid Transit’s work. The purpose of the role is to amplify rider perspectives in decision-making about public transit throughout the region and to equip and facilitate riders' participation in that decision-making process. While this role will include interaction with other groups, such as nonprofits and service organizations, businesses and employers, as well as local and state public officials, it is focused on current and potential riders.

We believe as well that the Richmond region's long history of racism has led to a fractured, limited public transportation system that disparately impacts the most historically marginalized people in our society, especially people of color, people with disabilities, and people with low-incomes. These communities are central to the work we do, and we strongly encourage applications from people within these or other historically marginalized communities.

How to Apply

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to Submit your application as soon as possible. Applications will begin being reviewed October 16, 2020, and will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. We plan to begin interviewing by October 26, 2020.
