Plessy vs. Ferguson Aired on American History TV (C-SPAN3)

June 29, 2021

Our recent Plessy v. Ferguson symposium marking the 125th anniversary since the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Plessy v. Ferguson aired Sunday on American History TV on C-SPAN3. The virtual conference co-sponsored in collaboration with the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs and the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley offered a retrospective on possible connections between the Supreme Court’s approval of state-imposed racial segregation and ongoing racial disadvantages and inequities.

The event furthered discussions initiated in Plessy v. Ferguson and the Legacy of “Separate but Equal” After 125 Years,” a volume of the Russell Sage Foundation Journal of Social Sciences edited by renowned scholars Susan Gooden, Samuel Myers Jr., and john a. powell published in March. The televised program can be viewed here. The next airing will take place on July 6 at 8 p.m. EST.
