Public Service Recognition Week 2021

April 30, 2021

Students of the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs are working to learn, gain hands-on experience, and make a positive difference in the world. Your support empowers students to make the most of their educational experiences.

In commemoration of Public Service Recognition Week (May 2 - May 8), please consider making a gift to honor a public servant and/or educator who has made a positive impact on your life and in our communities.

Our goal is to have 50 or more donors make a gift to the Wilder School Annual Fund by Saturday, May 8, 2021. These funds support students, faculty, and programs where it’s needed most. Every gift will make a positive impact.

An anonymous donor has provided an opportunity challenge to match up to $2,000. For every gift made during this effort, the donor will provide an additional $40 for up to 50 gifts.

This week, we will feature current students and alumni who have made outstanding achievements in the realm of public service and policy on our Wilder School Facebook page. We will also share stories about Governor Wilder’s notable career in public service and our school’s history.

Public servants have stepped up during the pandemic to keep communities safe and provide resources for those in need.

Our school’s dean Susan Gooden, Ph.D., has noted that no one becomes a public servant, or pursues a public service education, without having some enduring optimism that can help us move beyond the challenges of the day. The acts of service and learning are intrinsically about the future. We strive to help students reach their full potential to improve the world around us. Our programs in public administration and policy, urban and regional planning, criminal justice, and homeland security and emergency preparedness lead to careers in public service.

Thank you for your generosity and support of the Wilder School. Please make your gift to the Wilder School Annual Fund today.

If you or your spouse work for a company that has a matching gift program, your gift could make double the impact. Find out if your gift is eligible.

The mission of the Wilder School is to engage, teach, and inspire students and leaders to understand and solve challenges in our world, to advance research that informs public policy and decision-making to improve our communities, and to collaborate with communities through innovative partnerships to enhance quality of life.
