Two Wilder School alumnae, Suzette Denslow (Urban Studies '79) and Myra Goodman Smith (Urban Studies '82, MPA '84) will be honored at this year's YWCA Richmond Outstanding Women Awards. Susan Gooden, Ph.D., dean of the Wilder School was one of eight recipients of the YWCA Richmond’s 2019 Outstanding Women Awards.

Denslow and Smith were selected for the following two categories:

LAW & GOVERNMENT: Suzette Denslow is the first woman to be elected as Clerk of the Virginia House of Delegates. She was the Deputy Chief of Staff for Governors Ralph S. Northam and Terence R. McAuliffe. Prior to this position, she served as Chief of Staff to Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones. She is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and adjunct faculty member teaching public budget and finance, state and local government, and a variety of public administration and policy graduate courses at Virginia Tech.

NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP: Myra Goodman Smith is the President and CEO of Leadership Metro Richmond since 2010.  Myra has a diverse range of nonprofit management and leadership experience. She served as Vice President for community programs, planning, campaigns and operations for United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg for 23 years prior to joining Leadership Metro Richmond.

This year's OWA event will be held virtually on Friday, October 16 at 11:30 am. There is no cost if you would like to sign up through their website and tune in to the ceremony. We are honored to support these notable alumnae and other women doing incredible work in the Richmond area.
