Wilder School - Alumni Lunch and Learn

In June, the Wilder School launched an alumni lunch-and-learn webinar series with inaugural presenter Brian Moran, Virginia secretary of public safety and homeland security, who discussed the commonwealth’s response to COVID-19. Moran gave participants an inside look at the governor’s situation room, recounted the challenges of obtaining sufficient personal protection equipment, and described the early decision to have consistent communication from the governor’s office to maintain public confidence and provide the latest guidance. In July, Richmond Times-Dispatch columnist Michael Paul Williams spoke on a model for post-racist Richmond. Williams suggested rebranding Monument Avenue as the Avenue for Justice as a symbol of the aspirational goal of creating a just and equal society. August’s program examined the challenges of delivering K-12 instruction during a pandemic with Petersburg City School Superintendent Maria Pitre-Martin, Ph.D. and Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction James Lane, Ed.D.  In September, Stephen Moret, Ed.D. president and CEO of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, examined the post-pandemic economic challenges
