Before joining VCU, Michael O’Grady worked extensively in politics, the nonprofit sector, local government and on Capitol Hill. His research interests are motivated by seeing first-hand the toll that structural disparities have on both families and communities. His primary research involves local-level economic, workforce and community development policies with a focus on equity for current residents. His secondary research is using advanced quantitative techniques developed in other disciplines such as economics and biostatistics to explore issues of public policy. He also works at VCU Health’s Massey Cancer Center studying the intersections between economics, public policy and health, as well as helping to craft Massey’s public policy advocacy. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Longwood University along with a Master of Public Policy and a graduate certificate in economic policy analysis from American University.
