Burkett began his research career with the Center for Urban Research and Learning at Loyola University Chicago studying how local community organizing groups responded to a perceived increase in decision making power by state and local authorities. He also managed the data collection and analysis for student-community engagement within Loyola's Center for Experiential Learning while completing his Master's in Public Policy. Burkett's research interests focus on poverty reduction initiatives and he conducted an in-depth evaluation on a public benefits eligibility screening pilot program for the Chicago tech startup, mRelief. Burkett enjoys theatre, hiking and teaching himself to code.
